If business confidence were measured by demand for accountants, economic growth would be strong. Accountants are in demand in all organizations where financial transactions are conducted, concludes a report by Accounting Principals, an accounting and finance staffing provider. As business complexity and global reach increase, the report found that there is an increasing number of organizations in need of accountants – primarily for general compliance, financial reporting, tax, and strategic planning purposes. The need for accounting specialists, such as tax, audit, and forensic accountants, is also in great demand. Professionals that pursue higher education can expect even greater career growth within their industry, as well as across different industries, the report concluded.

The report also identified top cities in which to find a job in the financial services industry in the U.S. as:

1. San Francisco

2. Denver

3. Paramus, N.J.

4. Chicago

5. Portland, Ore.

6. Nashville, Tenn.

7. Miami

San Francisco’s proximity to Silicon Valley, a large community of venture capitalists and the highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the United States led Accounting Principals to rate the city as the best for financial jobs. Denver, the second best city for the financial services industry, was selected due to its growing oil and gas companies, and an improving manufacturing industry. Professionals with experience in tax, cost accounting, treasury, and renewable energy finance may do well in Denver, according to the report.
